A human Chief of Staff is valuable because they are in the room and on the threads. An AI agent is no different: without access to your work systems, it has no data, and every session starts with you re-explaining your world. Connectors are not a convenience feature — they are the difference between an assistant you brief and an agent that briefs you.

The minimum viable set

You do not need everything connected on day one. Three sources cover most of the morning-brief use case.

• Calendar: the shape of the day, and the meetings worth preparing for.
• Email: open threads, waiting-on-you items, and commitments made in writing.
• Messaging (Slack or Teams): the mentions, DMs, and channel decisions from the last 24 hours that would otherwise be scrollback.
• Next tier: task trackers and meeting-notes tools, which turn the brief from 'what happened' into 'what is owed and by whom.'

Make your systems agent-readable

The quality of what an agent surfaces depends on the hygiene of what it reads. A few habits raise retrieval quality immediately: state decisions and next steps out loud at the end of meetings so they land in the notes; put a short TLDR or goal line at the top of documents; prefer public channels over DMs for non-sensitive coordination so the context is accessible at all.

Managing the risk honestly

Connecting work systems is a real decision, not a checkbox. Understand your company's regulatory constraints and client commitments before connecting anything. That said, a read-only daily briefing is at the low end of the risk spectrum — the agent is summarizing, not sending emails or taking actions on your behalf. The sensible posture is to operate at the edge of your comfort zone: connected enough to be useful, scoped enough to be defensible.
